Extracorporeal Therapy services are available at Mass Vet. This unit will offer both hemodialysis and therapeutic plasma exchange modalities.
Hemodialysis
Hemodialysis provides management of acute kidney injury (AKI) and some specific drug intoxications. Great outcomes with management of AKI for leptospirosis patients are well recognized. Our team is available for case-by-case discussions regarding the utilization of hemodialysis in specific scenarios.
Therapeutic Plasma Exchange
Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) provides effective supplementary management for an array of immune-mediated diseases and also specific drug intoxications. It is becoming well recognized as a key technique for management of severe acute cases of IMHA (Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia) to facilitate rapid recovery. TPE is also effective in the management of severe intoxications such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) (eg. Advil/ibuprofen) overdose in which it can provide effective decontamination in overdose cases.
